65 new houses for Kg Ayer

A contract signing ceremony is set to take place this morning at the Istana Nurul Iman that will see the government's concrete and formal commitment to provide better and secure living for people residing in the country's iconic landmark - Kg Ayer.
Three ministers comprising the Minister of Development, Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Finance II will bear witness to the inking of an agreement between the government and a local contractor that will oversee several projects, which will commence this month.
The contract, dubbed Pilot Project to Upgrade Kampong Ayer, will see 65 environment-friendly houses to be built in two areas in Mukim Peramu and Mukim Saba. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Comprehensive infrastructures, which will be the future of a strong and stable Kg Ayer, will be built including the construction of an integrated connecting footbridge, an open area and also other basic services along with the construction of a waste disposal system.
Kampong Ayer has a rich history spanning hundreds of years. Today, around 30,000 residents continue to live on wooden stilt houses.
